BurySOUND finalists Matty and the Bullsharks say Bury St Edmunds feels like second home

Fresh from rocking the Apex at the BurySOUND final last month, Cambridge-based surf rock band Matty and the Bullsharks say Bury St Edmunds feels like a second home to them.

The band – made up of guitarists Charlie Wayne and Charles Cave, bass player Louis Gillet vocalist Mlu Mbambo and drummer Ben Levy – have just released their debut single The Devil’s Dance on flexidisc alongside a track from fellow Cambridge indie-pop band Deep City.

The Bullsharks are set to return to Bury on April 16, playing a set at Vinyl Hunter as part of Record Store Day, as well as joining the Bury Fringe all-dayer line-up on May 7.

Charlie said: “We are getting a bit of a following in Bury, with people coming to see us, so it is becoming a second home for us really.

“BurySOUND was a really fun night, not just playing but seeing all the other bands, too.

“That feeling of playing music and seeing people move and enjoy was amazing.”

Matty and Bullsharks formed around two years ago, having all been friends for years.

Charlie said: “I have known some of the guys since we were six or seven, but we all really met in secondary school.

“We had been in different iterations of the band, but had been stuck playing covers .

“As much as we liked it, it didn’t feel like our sound.

“When we started writing our own stuff, that’s when it really got going for us.”
