Ipswich rockers Bluefeed win second heat of BurySOUND

Another night of local music has seen talented performers compete in a town’s popular music competition.

Tonight saw Bluefeed, Grace Wells, Soma, The 07’s and The 29th Funktion take to the Hunter Club stage in Bury St Edmunds as part of BurySOUND 2023.

London-based rockers Fightmilk topped off the show before the heat 2 winners were announced: Bluefeed

Lead singer Noah Evans, from Ipswich, said: “It feels insane to win - I honestly can't believe it.

“I am so excited to play at The Apex, we've never played there before.

"I'm so chuffed and I'm so excited to do it."

Grace Wells introduced the night with her folk-inspired sound of moody yet beautiful ballads akin to Angel Olsen and Phoebe Bridgers.

It was her first time playing with her new band mates, Tom and Ollie, and the extra instrumentation added a welcome new dimension to Grace’s delicate soloist sound.

Four piece Soma exploded onto the stage with distorted guitars and crunchy riffs.

The band’s delicious mix of doom metal and thrash rock shook the venue with ear-penetrating velocity.

Next up was Bluefeed who got the crowd bobbing along to their punkish indie grooves reminiscent of The Subways and Jet.

The trio’s energy was electric with punchy bass lines and sticky melodies I’ll be humming into the weekend.

The 07s experienced some technical difficulties early on in their set but managed to deliver a genre-bending mix of pop rock and funk flavour.

The group’s cover of Can’t Stop by Red Hot Chilli Peppers was a particular highlight as you could tell the band were having a fantastic time while performing.

The night concluded with a 70’s-inspired psychedelic dream from The 29th Funktion.
