A Bury St Edmunds supermarket has bid farewell to its longest-serving employee.

Christine ‘Chris’ Wesson retired from Sainsbury’s, Moreton Hall, on Friday.

She had worked for the company for a total of 44 years and 165 days.

The 62-year-old began working on checkouts at the supermarket’s old store in Bury town centre at the age of 17.

She took up respective roles as commercial manager, checkout manager, team leader and finally store trainer, a position she had held for the last nine years.

Chris, who was a keen charity organiser for the store, said she had mixed feelings about leaving as she would be ‘leaving a lot of very good friends and colleagues’.

“I have had a lot of fun times and one or two sad times, with a lot of laughter along the way,” said Chris, who is one of only 195 people in the company to have completed 40 years’ service.
