Bury St Edmunds primary school wins singing competition
Howard Primary School, in Bury St Edmunds, has been named as the winner of the arc shopping centre’s Arc the Herald Angels Sing competition.
The school will collect a £500 prize after receiving the most votes among the finalists for its rendition of the popular Christmas song, Jingle Bell Rock.
More than 1,000 people took part in the vote, with Tinkerbells Nursery finishing close behind in second place and Westgate Community Primary coming third.
Amy Robinson, of Howard Primary School, said: “We are delighted to have won - the kids are over the moon. Our choir was composed of five children from each of our classes, Year 1 to Year 4, and the buzz around school was lovely as children, parents and staff checked daily on Howard’s progress in the competition.
“The school is planning on spending the money on music resources - new musical instruments to enhance the music lessons in class - so we want to say a huge thank you to all Howard’s friends and families for their support and also a big thank you for all the staff for practising lots in class. Well done children for all your hard work!”
Colin Roberts, arc centre manager, said: “We are delighted to announce that Howard Primary School has won the top prize, although it was very tight between the top three. The competition was a great success and I want to say a massive thank you to all the groups that entered and to all of our shoppers who took part in voting for the finalists.”
Sunday will be the last of the arc’s live music performances as the Soham Comrades Brass Band are welcomed to the stage at intervals throughout the day, starting at noon.
The little ones from Tinkerbells Nursery are also due to perform Christmas songs live from 2pm.
There will also be the opportunity to grab a free mince pie and the chance to win a £250 shopping spree.
Mr Roberts said: “Christmas is nearly here! Our Spirit of Christmas events have been hugely popular and it’s sad that this is the last one of the year, so come along, enjoy the atmosphere and grab yourself a free mince pie!”
