A Bury St Edmunds charity has hosted a garden party to show its appreciation for all the support it has received throughout the year.

The Bury District Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association’s party last Wednesday was attended by friends and family of its hard of hearing club and by others who had helped the organisation during the year.

Greenacre Suffolk representatives were among guests invited to enjoy strawberries and cream and scones after donating a bespoke summer house for the garden, while councillors were also invited after grants totalling £2,500 from Bury Town Council and councillors Pat and Frank Warby helped fund a new disabled door for the back of the Northgate Street centre.

Jane Frost, the association’s treasurer, said the new door was really important for centre users, which includes people who are deaf, blind or in a wheelchair.

Of the summer house, she said: “We’re delighted with it – it’s getting a lot of use.”
