Bury St Edmunds councillor suspended from Conservative Group after complaints about social media posts

A Bury St Edmunds councillor has been suspended from the West Suffolk Conservative Group following complaints about his social media posts.

Conservative Cllr Frank Warby, who represents Moreton Hall on West Suffolk Council, is the subject of an investigation after the authority received complaints over his social media posts.

Today, Cllr John Griffiths, leader of West Suffolk Council, confirmed Cllr Warby had been suspended from the Conservative Group pending further investigation.

He said: "After being made aware of the social media posts that Cllr Warby had posted or shared, West Suffolk Council has commenced a formal standards investigation.

"In addition, the West Suffolk Conservative Group has taken the immediate action to suspend him from the group pending further investigation.

"As councillors we of course have a duty to represent our entire community equally, fairly and without prejudice.

"However, and since there is now a formal standards investigation it would not be appropriate for me to comment further while this independent process is ongoing.”

Cllr Warby has also been suspended from the Bury St Edmunds Constituency Conservative Association.

Chairman Paul Rayner said: "After being made aware yesterday evening of the posts online, the Bury St Edmunds Constituency Conservative Association took steps to immediately suspend Cllr Warby pending a full investigation by the Conservative Party."

Last night, the Bury Free Press contacted Cllr Warby, who denied any wrongdoing.
