Bury St Edmunds Mind charity shop left counting the cost after break-in

A Bury St Edmunds charity shop which supports people with mental health issues has been left counting the cost following a break-in.

A stockroom was ransacked and items stolen during the incident at the Mind shop, on Cornhill, between 5.30pm on Wednesday, February 5 and 8.30am yesterday (Thursday, February 6).

The burglary meant the shop had to cancel its annual Time To Talk Day yesterday which sees staff offer support to people with mental health problems.

Shop manager Lucia Travnicskova said: "It was a shock. I can't believe someone could do that to any shop, let alone a charity shop.

"They broke in through our back door and damaged our back door. I think they tried to get in through the window at the back as well because the window was damaged.

"They just went through all our things and trashed everything in the back room, where we keep stock and paperwork.

"They've taken some things but we're not quite sure of all the things that have been taken. They did steal a medium sized blue-grey suitcase.

"The items that are sold here - the money goes to support Mind. We're trying to raise money and now we've got to pay for all the damage they've made. I don't know how much it's going to cost yet."

They are appealing for donations of bric-a-brac and clothes to replace items which were damaged and stolen.
