Bury St Edmunds charity dog show sets tails wagging

A charity dog show set tails wagging after attracting more than 2,000 people and their four legged friends.

St Nicholas Hospice Care's Paws in the Park saw pooches scoop prizes across a number of categories at Nowton Park on Sunday.

There were also agility and gundog scurry activities during the third annual event.

Charlie De-Moore, hospice events fund-raiser, said: "It really was a brilliant day and we were so pleased to welcome so many wonderful dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes to the event.

"We're so grateful to everyone who came along on the day and supported us.

"The money the event has raised really will make a huge difference to us as we continue to provide care and support for people across our community."

She thanked co-organisers Swayne & Partners as well as main sponsors Chassis Cab.

Categories in the show included the dog the judges most want to take home, the dog that looks most like its owner, best junior handler and best in show.

The show also featured a royal wedding inspired fancy dress category.

Poodles Pavane and Pierre scooped second place in the category having been in Windsor the day before.

Lynne Walton, who had helped her daughter Clare Walton, put the dogs’ costumes together, said: "On Friday we just decided it’s the royal wedding tomorrow let’s just head down to Windsor. So we did and had a fabulous time.

"We have loved Paws in the Park. We decided very last minute to enter them into the class, but we thought we just had too.

"We spent yesterday running around charity shops trying to get everything we needed, and then spent the evening sewing and putting it all together. When we told everyone what we were doing they thought it was great."

There were also children's amusements and trade stands.

Sarah Elder, 34, of Bury, said: "We have all had a really lovely time. It has been a nice day out for the whole family. I think we must have entered nearly every dog show class. It has been a lot of fun."
