Bury St Edmunds celebrates its role in the Great British sandwich

Bury St Edmunds has celebrated its place as the home of Branston Pickle by joining with Cheddar and Sandwich to create the UK’s first ‘Triple Town’.

Mayor of St Edmundsbury Robert Everitt unveiled a new town sign at the market today, specially created to celebrate National Sandwich Week.

He said: “As a town we are very proud of our links with Branston Pickle and we are delighted to celebrate National Sandwich Week.

“We are thrilled to be involved in the triple town activity which is designed to celebrate the cheese and pickle sandwich, a classic combination loved and enjoyed across the UK”

Branston Pickle has been produced at a factory on Mildenhall Road in Bury since 2004.

Victoria Adams, Branston Brand Manager said: “I can’t imagine a better way to make National Sandwich Week special than going back to the roots of the classic cheese and pickle sandwich.

“Triple Town is a UK first and is the perfect celebration to honour the natural affinity that unites the historic homelands of the much-loved cheese and pickle sandwich.”
