Bury St Edmunds book club celebrates first anniversary

A Bury St Edmunds young adult book club is celebrating its first birthday in July.

The Book Club of Nerds and Dreamers meets in Waterstones, Buttermarket, on the first Sunday of every month at 2.30pm.

Co-ordinator Rachel Churcher said: “In our first year, we’ve enjoyed books set in magical worlds, in modern-day settings, in 18th century Europe, in dangerous future societies, and on a spaceship travelling to Mars.

"We’ve discussed life and death, justice and power, mental health, gender representation, and LGBT love stories.

"We’ve fallen in love with troublemakers, activists, survivors, and tough female characters, and we’re constantly on the lookout for our next captivating read.”

In July, the club will be discussing Enchantée by Gita Trelease – a magical novel set in Paris in 1789.

The book to read for the August meeting is Boy 87 by Ele Fountain.

The next meetings are on Sunday, July 7 and Sunday, August 4.

New members over the age of 13 are welcome, and there’s no upper age limit.
