Bury St Edmunds band to perform at Glastonbury

A Bury St Edmunds band who formed two years ago after meeting at college are set to showcase their music at Glastonbury.

Gaffa Tape Sandy have been invited to perform on the BBC Introducing Stage at the renowned music festival tomorrow (Friday) at 3.45pm.

Although nervous, the band’s members Kim Jarvis (lead singer/guitarist), Catherine Neilson (bass and vocals) and Robin Francis (drums) are relishing the opportunity.

Kim, 21, said: “We’re ready and we think our songs are good enough to go out there and do our thing.

“It’s going to be a really big new audience.”

They were invited to Glastonbury after performing on radio show BBC Introducing in Suffolk, which showcases up and coming music talent.

Kim said: “We did a few sessions with BBC Introducing.

“They’ve got a studio in Ipswich and we went to record some songs for them.

“They decided we were ready and put us in touch with the right people, who thought we were good enough.”

The group have been together for just over two years after meeting at West Suffolk College. They pride themselves on having a ‘diverse sound’ and released a six track EP, Spring Killing, earlier this year.

They are featuring on ‘This Is The Sound of Sugar Town Volume 2’, which is a 13-track compilation album of Bury bands. It will be released on Friday, July 7 and all profits will go to mental health charity Julian Support.

They will perform at launch parties for the record on July 1 at The Hunter Club, in Bury, from 6pm to 11pm and at Relevant Records, in Cambridge, on July 8, from 7pm to 10pm. There is another launch party at Vinyl Hunter, in Bury, on July 1 from noon to 6pm.
