Anglian Water repairs to close Orttewell Road in Bury St Edmunds for three weeks

Orttewell Road will be fully closed for three weeks as a £650,000 water main is fitted from Monday, April 8.

Anglian Water will be laying 60m of additional water main installed from the Bury St Edmunds road into a neighbouring field.

Work is set to conclude at the end of the month and access for residents and the emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Motorists will otherwise be sent via a diversion route (see below for details).

Anglia Water said they had scheduled the work for the Easter holidays to minimise disruption.

Spokesperson David Hartley said: "We're always supportive of sustainable growth across the region, and as the East of England is one of the fastest growing areas in the UK, this work in Bury St Edmunds will ensure a resilient water supply for the future, keeping taps running for years to come.

"By working with Suffolk Highways, we've been able to schedule this work in the Easter holidays in order to minimise any disruption for people in the area, but we're sorry for any inconvenience caused, our teams will be working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."

The diversion route

  • A full road closure will be in effect on Orttewell Road (between the A143 and the junction with Barton Road).
  • A diversion route will be in place that will see traffic diverted via the A134, onto the A14 and through Bedingfeld Way and onto the Orttewell Road from the south.
  • Northbound traffic will be diverted via Barton Road, Hollow road and onto the A134.
