Bury in Bloom competition judges celebrate as almost 1,500 gardens across town net award

Judges in this year’s edition of the Bury in Bloom competition were honoured at a reception yesterday.

This year, around 80 volunteers were tasked with identifying the best private gardens in Bury St Edmunds.

Almost 1,500 certificates of merit were handed out by these judges to householders.

The judges attended a reception yesterday in recognition of their work.

This figure includes around 60 ‘Highly Commended’ awards.

At the Guildhall on Wednesday, the volunteers who contributed to this mammoth effort were able to enjoy a well-earned glass of wine alongside the organisers.

Next year, a number of changes are planned for the competition, with even more judges required than in this year’s edition.

Sustainability criteria will be included as part of the assessment process, and judges will start visiting Marham Park for the first time.
