Bridge Farm Bridge reconstruction project, on the A1088 at Stowlangtoft, near Bury St Edmunds, further delayed
A bridge reconstruction project on a key road has been further delayed.
Suffolk Highways posted on Facebook yesterday to announce it is hopeful the works to replace Bridge Farm Bridge, on the A1088 at Stowlangtoft, will be complete in the first week of March.
This is a push back from its previous target of the end of February, while the new end date is weather dependent.
Highways said the delay was to accommodate works by UK Power Networks.
The project, at the outset, was initialy supposed to be finished by the end of December, but was delayed due to defects being found in the concrete which was used to construct the new bridge piles. It was first shut on July 22.
Last week, project workers poured the new concrete slab for the bridge.
This will be developed this week to form both edge beams which will support new fencing across the structure and then waterproofing to the new bridge deck, kerbs and ducting will be applied.
Once this is done, the teams will lay asphalt across the new bridge surface on both approaches and paint new road markings.
In the final stages of the works, utility cables will be diverted across the new bridge before the project compound is removed so the road can reopen.
Highways thanked the local community and road users for their patience.
