Breckland councillor reaffirms crack-down on fly-tipping after man pleads guilty to offences in Thetford

A member of Breckland Council has reaffirmed its serious approach to fly-tipping after a man accused of committing the offence in Thetford pleaded guilty in court last week.

Cllr Lynda Turner, executive member for communities and environmental services, said she welcomed the plea of El Habib El Mekkaoui, who appeared at Kings Lynn Magistrates Court after being arrested in connection with two instances of fly-tipping.

“Fly-tipping is a real blight on communities and our landscape,” said Cllr Turner. “We hope this case deters people from fly-tipping in the future.

“Breckland takes tackling this issue very seriously and is committed to working closely with local people to investigate reported instances and to pursue those who continue to think it is acceptable.”

Last month the Thetford Community Association received a £20,000 grant from the Pride in Breckland project for a 12-month pilot scheme to tackle the issue inthe town.
