Bury Bowl in Bury St Edmunds unveils striking new look
A popular bowling alley has unveiled a new look for 2022.
Bury Bowl, at The Autopark, in Eastgate Street, Bury St Edmunds, has undergone a rebrand with the exterior being given a makeover and the business a brand new logo.
The logo, which features four coloured bowling pins above a bowling ball, is now on the front of the building as well as all promotional material, including leaflets and uniforms.
Bury Bowl manager, Claire Gouge, said: “We haven’t updated the logo since 1988 when the bowling alley was founded and it looked really dated; so dated that when I drove past it on the A14, as manager, I was quite embarrassed.
“We needed something that stood out and I think we’ve really achieved that. The exterior, which was white, has also been a painted in a new grey colour, which contrasts with the new black logo, and also looks a lot better.
“I think our new look is modern and family friendly.”
The rebrand has was drawn up with the help of Coastline Graphics in Bury.
“It’s particularly heartening as during the Covid lockdowns we had a really tough time and it was even touch and go whether we would be able to carry on,” said Miss Gouge.
“We were only open for four months during a 14-month period because of the restrictions and even during the times we were open, were only trading at about 50 per cent.
“Thankfully, since opening fully in May 2021, things have been going really well, and so we thought it was time to update our look to give something back to our wonderful customers and our beautiful town.”
The bowling alley, which has 12 ten-pin bowling lanes, arcade games, pool tables, air hockey, a licensed bar and pool tables, has also hired new chef, Antony Brazier.
“Since Anthony started, our takings for food have doubled,” said Miss Gouge.
“We have a new range of homemade burgers, theme nights, such as curry nights, desserts, specials and gluten-free and vegan options.
“Our focus is always to put customers first and that has really helped to rebuild the business after the lockdowns.”
Miss Gouge has worked the bowling alley for 10 years, just over five of those as manager. Despite staff being furloughed during the pandemic, all 22 have been able to stay on in their jobs.
The venue recently won a Traveller’s Choice Award and Miss Gouge won the Customer Service award at last year’s Bury Free Press Business Awards.
“We have a great team here and it is a lovely place to work," she said.
"I hope people like our new look."
