Bury St Edmunds bike store Revel Outdoors to close as business shifts gear to online

Performance bike retailer Revel Outdoors is set to shut up shop after over a decade in business - although it will continue as an online store.

The shop moved to its Bury St Edmunds premises in 2010, with the business itself in continuous operation for 15 years.

Its Brentgovel Street store will close by April 29.

During its time in town, Revel has won and been shortlisted for numerous accolades and was named a finalist in the Bury Free Press Business Awards in 2015.

The store supplied bikes to Renvale Racing, a team which attained national success.

In addition to its brick-and-mortar shop, Revel trades online, and owner Sarah Wightman has announced the business will shift its focus to this space.

Not all items sold in-store will be available online, including Giant and Cannondale parts and accessories, SRAM, Shimano, Enduro bearings and Cane Creek products.

Stock clearance is currently underway, with most products selling with a 30 per cent discount.

The closure was revealed by Mrs Wightman in a statement to the public, posted in the shop's front window.

It reads: "After 15 years in business and 12 at our Bury St Edmunds store, we are planning a move. This will see us hand the store over to new owners.

"We are moving out of town and high-street retail to focus on the online side of our business."

Mrs Wightman added: "Please bear with us over the next few weeks as we manage this transition. It may be a rather busy and somewhat emotional few weeks."

The shop's rewards programme will not be carried over online.

New points cannot be accrued against Revel purchases from March 22, and the scheme will formally end on April 14, with shoppers no longer able to trade points for products.
