Bid to enhance accessibility and capacity of Nowton Court Residential Home, in Nowton, near Bury St Edmunds, approved by West Suffolk Council
A bid to enhance the accessibility and capacity of a care village near a town has been green lit.
The proposals from Mr Bir Kathuria, on behalf of Euronite Ltd, concerning Nowton Court Residential Home, in Nowton, near Bury St Edmunds, were approved by West Suffolk Council today.
The plans will see the existing west wing at the 19th century property be brought into full accessible use, while a further two-storey extension will be added.
This will add 19 more rooms to the care village.
Nowton Parish Council objected to the plans at first on the grounds of its design and a desire for it to harmonise better with the building, but after they were amended it gave no comment to the application.
Objections from three members of the public were submitted across the two rounds of consultation on the plans.
They raised issues with noise and disruption from construction traffic, the potential impact on surrounding parkland and a lack of proper notification to neighbours, among other factors.
Planners said materials used for the extension will match the existing building, so they had no concerns over impacts on the character of the building.
They said, with restrictions on hours of construction and management of the site during this phase to minimise disturbances on neighbours, they also had no qualms over the proposals’ impact on residential amenity.
The application was approved subject to conditions on a time limit for the works to be completed, environmental matters, hours of construction and accordance with the plans.
