Early bird offer for St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Sunset Walk around Bury St Edmunds to end on April 24
Time is running out to get your early bird tickets for a charity’s second evening walking event.
St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Sunset Walk, which will take place on June 21 around Bury St Edmunds, raised more than £120,000 in its inaugural edition last year.
The early bird offer, which expires on April 24, gives participants discounted registration of £13.50 for adults and £8 for children (ages five to 17), while walkers under five go free.
About 1,000 people took part last year in a night of remembrance, music and community spirit, and walkers can choose between 10 kilometre and 15 kilometre routes.
Gemma King will take on the longer route in memory of her nan, who was supported by the hospice before she died in January 2024. Gemma said: “Her last days were peaceful, surrounded by family with a beautiful garden view.
“The team treated her with the utmost dignity and respect and supported me in every way right up until the end. The respect and dignity during and after was as she’d have wanted it.”
Every walker who takes part is encouraged to raise £100 to support St Nicholas Hospice Care’s services for those facing dying, death and grief across West Suffolk and Thetford.
Participants can look forward to a festival-like atmosphere, including entertainment, refreshments, a fun warm-up session, and selfie stations to capture the moment.
Charlie De-Moore, the hospice’s event manager, added: “Last year’s Sunset Walk was a wonderful success, and we know this year will be even bigger. But if you want to take part, don’t wait – sign up now before our early bird offer ends on April 24. Secure your place today and be part of something truly special.”
Along the route, music zones will keep energy levels high, while quiet reflection points will offer moments of remembrance for those walking in memory of loved ones.
St Nicholas Hospice Care costs £22,000 a day to run and only has a small amount of income from statutory sources, making events the Sunset Walk even more vital to fund its work.
