Barrow development brief for 75 homes due for approval by St Edmundsbury councillors
A development brief for land east of Barrow Hill is now set for approval.
Future planning under St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s Vision 2031 requires that development briefs are agreed for specific sites.
A report to yesterday’s sustainable development working party states that while response to public consultation was low changes to the layout of the scheme for 75 homes and a business site were mainly supported.
Feedback from residents said that the development should include bungalows and affordable housing, financial contributions from developers should stay within Barrow and there should be safe access to the centre of Barrow for pedestrians and cyclists. There should also be sufficient capacity at the village school.
There is currently a planning application to extend the existing GP surgery to include space for a dentist alongside improved parking.
The new layout for the site also creates a more meaningful open space and the brief has also been amended to ensure that there would be links into public rights of way.
The brief now goes to cabinet and full council for final approval before it becomes the benchmark for future planning applications.
