Bury St Edmunds Bar Twenty One set to open in Risbygate Street after £200,000 revamp

A new bar is set to open in Bury St Edmunds tomorrow following a major revamp.

Bar Twenty One will welcome customers at 3 Risbygate Street on Friday with ‘nothing but the biggest old skool anthems, all weekend’ say the owners.

Gareth Harper and Neil Hawes are the duo behind the venture.

The launch follows a £200,000 makeover of the former Gym Bar, which closed in June last year.

Mr Harper and Mr Hawes also run a branch of Bar Twenty One, in St Nicholas Street, Ipswich.

They said: “Get ready for the old skool Bury St Edmunds. After four months of totally transforming 3 Risbygate Street, we can't wait to show you all our hard work.”

The bar and brasserie offers cocktails, ‘old skool Kisstory-style’ music, with DJs at the weekend playing the classics.

It also offers sports TV, as well as special events including live music, quiz nights and karaoke.

Bar Twenty One opened in Ipswich three years ago. The new Bury bar follows the same design, branding and offerings.

When announcing the bar, Gareth said: “We are super-excited to be opening a new venue in Bury St Edmunds.

“We think it will have a massive impact on the Bury nightlife.”

The duo said they felt Bury was ripe for a new bar and late club.

He added: “We also want to build a community with Ipswich Town supporters and have launched a loyalty card with special offers for Town fans. This means they can come for a drink before going on to the game.

“We think the new bar will fill a big gap in the market.”
