Yellow weather warning in place for Bury St Edmunds and West Suffolk as Met Office warns of thunderstorms




Thunderstorms are expected to hit West Suffolk today and tomorrow, with a yellow weather warning in place through the night.

The Met Office has issued warnings of possible travel disruption and flooding across most of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland today.

'Potentially severe' thunderstorms are also due to hit on Tuesday morning with the East Midlands, East of England, London, West Midlands and Yorkshire among the areas to be worst affected.

Forecasters said that 20 to 30mm of rain could fall within an hour, with some areas potentially seeing twice that amount.

They added: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong wind."

The alert is in place until 10am on Tuesday.
