Girls Night Out 2021: All you need to know about this years event in Bury St Edmunds
More than 600 walkers have pledged to don their pyjamas and a pair of bunny ears for St Nicholas Hospice Care’s biggest fund-raiser.
The charity’s Girls Night Out walk, which has generated more than £200,000 in the last few years, returns to Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, September 11, after a virtual version was held last year due to the pandemic.
Charlie De-Moore, the hospice’s events fund-raiser, said the amount of people already signed up was ‘fantastic’ given the uncertainty people have faced.
“Girls Night Out is our biggest fund-raising event both in terms of the number of people who take part and the money it raises,” she said.
“The safety and wellbeing of our walkers, volunteers, and staff is our top priority which is why we have put measures in place and made changes to ensure the event is as safe as it can be.
“Over the years, Girls Night Out has grown not only into an event for the hospice, but into an event for the whole community, so, whether you can walk with us, volunteer at the event, or perhaps support someone with their fund-raising, your support is most welcome.”
What is Girls Night Out?
Girls Night Out is one of the most popular fund-raising event in Bury St Edmunds and has been running since 2009.
The event involves people pulling on their pyjamas, pink t-shirts and bunny ears to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care.
Women can come together to help celebrate and remember their loved ones on the walk. 2,000 women gathered in 2019 to raise a total of £224,699.
Among the participants this year is Ruth Green, of Bury St Edmunds, who is taking part in memory of her former partner Tony, who was cared for by the hospice.
Ruth said: "When Tony was ill, the hospice was a huge support to us.
“Tony was able to attend day services, and, to be honest, everyone was there for us whenever we needed it. We had lots of support in different ways, not just Tony but the whole family.”
