Early bird Lyn Wickham queued from 5.45am to get her hands on the 40” Full HD LED TV star prize. Other lucky customers won 10” Tablet PCs, Garmin Sat Navs and a range of other Aldi products.

The store, in Lime Kiln Lane, was officially reopened by manager Barry Wicks, Thetford Mayor Robert Kybird and Mayoress Glynis Irish.

The ribbon was cut by Maciej Nowek, the winner of a poster competition run in local schools to come up with a design on the theme of Christmas at Aldi.

Principles from Norwich Road Academy also attended the opening and received a £100 cheque for taking part in the school poster competition.

Standing at 912 sqm, the store has created five new jobs for the town and is still recruiting for a number of roles. More information is available at www.aldirecruitment.co.uk

For its opening week, Aldi is running reduced offers on items including 40” 4K HD TVs (£249.99), Smartphone 4.5s (£44.99), digital cameras (£9.99) and Dual DVD players (£39.99).

To coincide with the opening, Aldi will also be donating a range of products to Amazing Noah’s Ark Family Group in support of its services to the local community.

Barry Wicks, store manager, said: “I would like to thank the Thetford community for coming out to support our re-opening, and I hope they enjoyed the variety of opening offers available.

“We are proud to be supporting local groups in the community, including the local Thetford under 18s football team’s rain jackets.”

The store is open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
