A1101 at Hengrave reopened after dangerous tree is removed

The A1101 has has reopened at Hengrave after a local farmer helped move a tree the gales have left hanging over the road.

Suffolk Police were called to the scene, close to the Mildenhall side of the village, at 10.20am this morning and found the tree appeared to be supported only by telephone lines it had fallen against.

BT and Suffolk Highways were called to the scene and drivers were advised to use a different route. The farmer used a JCB teleporter to remove the tree.

Police say the gales have resulted in trees coming down around the county and a spokesman warned drivers to take care on rural roads. He added: “Even if its not a tree in the road, you will come across large branches you would want to drive over, then people swerve and get into trouble.”

Though winds are expected to die down, the Met Office weather warning currently in force warns that there could still be gusts this afternoon of 40-50mph.
