A11 Fiveways roundabout set to get new garage and fast food outlet

A gateway project involving a petrol station and fast food outlet at the A11 entrance into Mildenhall is taking place - just days after dualled road was finally opened.

Developers Pigeon have this week announced it is now entering the next stage of its redevelopment of the former garage on the Fiveways roundabout.

The £3 million project will include a Shell petrol station and a McDonald’s drive-through restaurant, both of which have signed letting agreements. Due for completion in summer 2015, the development will create around 40 new jobs.

The project was made possible after Forest Heath District and St Edmundsbury Borough Councils helped Pigeon secure a £500,000 loan from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Leader of Forest Heath District Council James Waters said the councils are working with the developers and ‘getting the job done’.

“Only on Friday we had the announcement of the completion of the dualled A11 between Fiveways and Thetford, creating business and tourism growth opportunities across the whole of Forest Heath,” he said.

“Now we have a new gateway off the A11 into Mildenhall taking shape, with the next phase of construction getting underway.”

Leader of St Edmundsbury Borough Council and New Anglia LEP board member John Griffiths said: “This again illustrates our strong track record and ambition.

“We are drawing in the investment, working with partners and creating new job opportunities for our residents and businesses.”

Managing director of the New Anglia LEP Chris Starkie said: “We hope this will be the first of many similar schemes.

“The opening of the A11 gives us a faster route towards greater investment, prosperity and connectivity across Suffolk and Norfolk.”
