CeX opens in Bury St Edmunds’ Buttermarket, in former GAME unit

A video game and electronics store has opened in Bury St Edmunds – more than two years in the making.

CeX opened in the former GAME unit in the Buttermarket this morning.

The firm specialises in second-hand electronics including games, phones, consoles and laptops.

Owen Loomes, the store’s manager, said the team were pleased to finally be open.

He said: “Opening day has been busy, but we’re expecting it to really pick up in the afternoon.”

CeX had been looking to open a new store for five years, and we’d been in discussions to move into this building for two years, he stated.

Owen said: “There had been delays, so it’s great to finally be here – it’s been a long time coming.

“The store is in an ideal location, so the company was more than willing to wait for everything to be perfect before moving in.”

CeX is still recruiting both part-time and full-time staff to man the store.

In anticipation for its opening, staff were trained in other CeX stores, including in Ipswich, Felixstowe and Thetford, Owen added.

Signs for CeX went up last week.

This comes after GAME, which was located in the unit where CeX now sits, closed in April.

GAME is now located inside Sports Direct.
