A first for Stowmarket auctioneers as historic coins go under the hammer

Stowmarket-based auctioneers Bishop & Miller is hosting its first international coin auction.

There will be more than 300 lots going under the hammer in their first auction, which takes place on Friday 5 at the saleroom in the Charles Industrial Estate.

A number of excellent coins will go under the hammer including Lot 18, a Henry VIII gold angel (1509 - 1526), expected to fetch between £600 and £900 and Lot 21, a James I Unite (1604-19) that has an estimate of £1,000 to £1,500. Lots 280 and 286 are postcard collections of scenes in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Aldeburgh, attracting an auction estimate of between £30 - £60.

Oliver Miller, auctioneer and valuer said: “To have our first specialist coin sale adds an excellent dimension to our existing busy auction calendar.

“We love to sell local items that really reflect what the East of England is all about.”

The Bishop & Miller Coin Auction starts at 10.30am on Friday and viewings are today (Wednesday, August 3) from 9.30am to 4pm and tomorrow from 9.30am to 6pm and on Friday from 9am throughout the sale.
