£80,000 refurb for leisure centre's gym
The Abbeycroft Leisure centre in Bury St Edmunds is undergoing a £80,000 investment, with closures set to affect members next week.
The leisure centre, situated in Beetons Way, is undergoing a refurbishment in its main gym – the studios, pool and courts will not be affected.
Nikki Mayhew, Abbeycroft’s PR officer, said: “We listened to members about what they wanted and it seemed they wanted a bigger and better functional fitness area. We refurbish the gyms in a ‘waterfall’ effect so that we don’t concentrate on one gym then move to the next, but focus on different areas of each gym every year.”
The refurbishment will include a larger functional area with additional matting, punch bag and new functional equipment.
The renovations will also see an improved free weights section, making it bigger and better with new dumbbells, racks, benches and an additional squat rack.
The refurbishment will affect the gym’s opening hours between Monday, July 9, and Friday, July 13, with everything being fully back open and functional on Saturday July, 14. On Monday, July 9, the gym will be closed between 9am and 4pm. On Tuesday, July 10, the gym will be open normal hours – 6am until 10pm. From the Wednesday (11th) to Friday, the main gym will be closed. Members are able to use Skyliner and Thurston centres, while Bury gym is closed.
