Suffolk Police arrest 12-year-old boy on suspicion of possessing a knife and cannabis after incident at Costa Coffee in the arc, Bury St Edmunds
A 12-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife and cannabis following a public order incident in Bury St Edmunds.
Police were called to Costa Coffee in the arc shopping centre at 11.55am on Sunday following reports of a group of around six or seven youths damaging tables outside the coffee shop.
An eyewitness who was in Costa Coffee at the time said staff had tried to stop the group before the police were called.
"There was lots of shouting and one of the kids threw a bottle of fizzy drink at one of the staff members which hit the window of the shop," he said.
"A lot of people then came around and some of the children were videoing it all.
"The police arrived and put about three of the youngsters in handcuffs. They were then taken away."
The boy, along with a 13-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy who were both from Bury, was initially arrested on suspicion of causing harassment, alarm or distress under section 5 of the Public Order Act.
The trio were then taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre, where the 12 year old, who is from the Brandon area, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife or bladed article and on suspicion of possessing cannabis.
They have all since been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
