12 fire crews attend Beccles business after nut oil mistaken for hazardous substance
A suspected hazardous substance found on a parcel at a Beccles business has been identified as nut oil.
Twelve fire crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue were initially called out to the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Smallgate in the town at around 10am today after a member of staff experienced shortness of breath while handling a package.
Officers from Suffolk Police were also in attendance and initially evacuated the property while investigations were carried out.
But after it was discovered that the member of staff had suffered an allergic reaction to a nut oil on the parcel, nine engines were stood down.
The condition of the affected member of staff is currently unknown.
Crews from Woodbridge, Holbrook, Leiston, Bungay, Beccles, Stowmarket, Hadleigh, Haverhill and Lowestoft South attended.
A police cordon was put in place but has now been removed.
