Lowestoft and Beccles among parts of the UK hit with Met Office yellow weather warning for ice

Residents are being warned to expect icy conditions in some parts of Suffolk as a result of sleet and snow showers.

It comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice from 3pm today until midday tomorrow.

The warning, which covers Beccles and Lowestoft, says that showers of sleet and snow will lead to some slippery surfaces.

A Met Office spokesperson said people should be prepared for some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, as well as icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

They said: "Showers of sleet and snow will continue across coastal parts of eastern England, especially this evening and the early part of the night.

"These showers will fall onto surfaces that are below freezing, leading to some slippery conditions where surfaces remain untreated, due to either ice or a slight dusting of snowfall."

Temperatures are set to dip to as low as -3 degrees in Lowestoft tomorrow and -4 in Beccles, according to the Met Office forecasters.
