Beccles Lido temporarily closes for maintenance to combat leak and rising costs
A Beccles pool is temporarily closing for maintenance to combat leaking water as well as rising costs.
Beccles Lido, in Puddingmoor, is shutting its doors until October 19 to repair a leak in one of its pipes.
They will also be installing a new lighting system as part of the works.
Beccles Lido is an outdoor pool open all-year long, with it operating a ‘cold water’ swimming schedule during the winter months.
Matt Day, General Manager at Beccles Lido, said: “We are repairing a leak in one of our pipes; to do this we have to cut a section of the poolside away and dig down to the pipe, plus also drain the pool level down to below the pipe to prevent water damage to the repair.
“We are also replacing some worn-out valves in the plantroom which have been in place since the 1970s.
“Our energy bills have quadrupled this year, plus water and chlorine costs almost doubled too – so losing heated, chlorinated water is very costly and hitting us hard financially.
“The new valves will allow us to continue operating with the crystal-clear water our customers are used to and these valves control the water filtration and flows, and our lighting system will allow us to offer swimming through the winter and in the warm summer evenings next year.”
The pool will reopen with the cold water swimming schedule, on Thursday evenings, Friday early mornings and evenings, as well as Saturday mornings.
Its previous refurbishment in 2020 allows the pool to run efficiently all year round, saving money as the pool does not need to be continuously drained and refilled.
The Beccles Lido website has some advice on cold water swimming, suggesting people try it at their own pace, as well as assuring customers they serve hot drinks during opening hours.
It also lists the potential benefits of cold water swimming, including boosting your immune system and enhancing circulation.
