A fund-raiser has raised more than £800 after a ‘devastating’ blaze at a town restaurant that caused ‘severe damage’.

A member of the public at 1.43pm on Wednesday reported smoke billowing out from the back of Graze at The White Horse, in New Market, Beccles.

Eight fire engines attended the scene and worked to dampen the flames using breathing equipment and hose reel jets.

Later that day, a spokesperson for Graze at The White Horse said they would have to close for the foreseeable future as the blaze caused severe damage to the kitchen and restaurant.

They thanked the fire brigade and also everyone who supported them and contacted them with kind words.

A GoFundMe fund-raiser has been launched by Ria Jones on behalf of Joy Hoy, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband Steve.

A total of £815 has been raised so far, just £185 short of the £1,000 goal.

Ms Jones said on the GoFundMe page: “As you all are probably aware Graze at The White Horse had a devastating fire which not only affected Jo and Steve’s business and livelihood, but also their home.

“Jo and Steve are always first in line to support any good causes and it’s now their turn to receive some support.
