Free WiFi is now available in Beccles and Halesworth as part of East Suffolk Council's Digital Towns scheme
Free public WiFi has launched in two more Suffolk towns as part of a council's plans to boost local economies and encourage tourism.
Beccles and Halesworth are the latest to be covered by East Suffolk Council's Digital Towns programme, which seeks to increase connectivity in the district's market towns.
It follows similar launches in Woodbridge and Southwold in August, Lowestoft in May, and Felixstowe in June.
In Halesworth, the WiFi will be available down the Thoroughfare, from the library to the Angel Hotel.
In Beccles, it is available on The Walk, New Market and Exchange Square.
Free signal is the first step in a string of digital enhancement to these towns, the council has said.
New technologies will be combined with support for businesses in the towns to spur economic development.
It was first piloted in Framlingham in 2019.
The authority has plans to set up free WiFi in 12 towns and villages in the district.
Residents in Bungay, Aldeburgh, Leiston and Saxmundham can expected launches soon.
Councillor Craig Rivett, the deputy leader of East Suffolk Council, said: "It’s great to this initiative being rolled out to another two towns; each now able to make use of free public WiFi access and a whole package of digital benefits.
"We’re passionate about enabling our communities and local businesses to thrive with projects such as this."
