Firefighters tackle car blaze in Kempson Drive, Great Cornard




Firefighters were called in the early hours to a car fire in a Suffolk village which exploded and caused damage to a nearby house and garage.

Fire crews from Sudbury attended the fire in Kempson Drive, Great Cornard, near Sudbury, at 4.17am today.

The fire completely destroyed the vehicle and the explosion is believed to have been caused by the car’s oxygen cylinder, according to Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service.

On social media, residents from as far as Boxford reported being awoken by the loud bang at 4.23am.

Firefighters wearing breathing equipment extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets.

No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire is believed to have been an electrical fault in the car.
