Fire crews spend over six hours tackling blaze at Sackers recycling yard in Great Blakenham near Ipswich overnight
Fire crews spent more than six hours tackling a massive blaze at a metal recycling yard in a Suffolk village overnight.
Four initial crews were called to the scene at 11.06pm where 300 tonnes of scrap metal and car shells were on fire at Sackers in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich.
Firefighters put out a statement on social media at about 2am asking nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed.
Three further crews were sent to relieve the initial responders and they stopped attending the incident at 5.39am.
Appliances from Hadleigh, Stowmarket, Needham Market, two from Princes Street and two from Ipswich East attended the scene.
Police were also called to the area and had to close Gipping Road but it has since been reopened.
